Evidence shows both effectiveness and ineffectiveness of abstinence-only sex education. Some of evidence has been found to be ineffective in decreasing HIV risk in the developed world through the abstinence-only sex education. Other evidence shows that the decreasing rate of Teenage pregnancy is directly related to abstinence-only sex education.
The topic of abstinence-only education is controversial in the United States, with proponents claiming that comprehensive sex education encourages premarital sexual activity, and critics arguing that abstinence-only education is religiously motivated. It is still an unjustified method of sex education and the Lancet Commission on adolescent health and wellbeing does not suggest the abstinence-only sex education.
