Lurin Jyoti Gogoi is the former General Secretary of All Assam Students' Union (2015-2020) and a student leader of Assam. He is currently the President[1] of the Assam Jatiya Parishad.[2]

Early life and education

Lurinjyoti was born in Morankari Gaon of Laipuli Gram Panchayat in Tinsukia district.He was to Late Dulu Gogoi and Prabin Gogoi.[3]

He attended Laipuli No. 1 Primary School in his village for primary schooling and completed his higher secondary studies from the Senairam Higher Secondary School in Tinsukia district.

After completing a bachelor's degree from Tinsukia college, he started involving in All Assam Students' Union. He later went to Dibrugarh University where he obtained a doctorate degree in mathematics.[4]

Political life

While studying at the undergraduate level from Tinsukia College, Lurinjyoti became involved in Aasu (All Assam Students' Union). He was later elected General Secretary of Aasu in 2015 under the chairmanship of Dipanka Nath. In November 2020, Lurinjyoti Gogoi resigned as the General Secretary of the All Assam Students' Union.[5] He later became involved in active politics[6] and contested the 2021 Assembly elections from Duliajan[7] and Naharkatiya constituencies.[8] In both the constituencies, the first phase of the Assam Assembly elections was held on March 26, 2021.[9] Lurin Jyoti was defeated by Terash Gowala of BJP in the Duliajan constituency and Taranga Gogoi, a BJP candidate from Naharkatiya.[10][11]
