Sean Hurson is a Gaelic football referee. He hails from the Glabally Parses club in County Tyrone.

He refereed the ✅ 2018 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship final and the ✅ 2021 All-Ireland Under-20 Football Championship final. He also did the ✅ 2021–22 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship final between Kilcoo and Kilmacud Crokes. He then did the 2022 Connacht Senior Football Championship quarter-final between New York and Sligo, the 2022 Leinster Senior Football Championship semi-final between Kildare and Westmeath, the ✅ 2022 Ulster Senior Football Championship final between Donegal and Derry and the 2022 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship quarter-final between Dublin and Cork, finishing off witht the 2022 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final between Galway and Kerry.[1] That is ahis first senior final.[2][3] A clubmate of Kery coach Paddy Tally.[4] Galway boss Pádraic Joyce was asked for comment on this.[5][6] Hurson sent off Paul Conroy in Galway's 2022 National Football League game against Derry.[7]

Hurson began refereeing in 2008, is a married man, Aileen being the wife and, as of 2022, was the father of two daughters and a son, and is the first Tyrone referee of an All-Ireland final since Paddy Devlin did the 1972 replay and 1974 final, and Hurson himself (as of 2022) had refereed every major national final except the Munster Senior Football Championship final and the the MacRory Cup final, which he was going to do in 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic ended that one, the other finals not yet mentioned which he had refereed (up to 2022) are as follows: ✅ 2012 Tyrone JFC final ✅ 2013 Tyrone IFC final ✅ 2014, 2016, 2018 Tyrone Senior Football Championship finals ✅ 2017 Hogan Cup final ✅ 2016, 2019 Ulster Club finals ✅ 2015 All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship final ✅ 2014 National Football League Division 3 final ✅ 2018 National Football League Division 2 final ✅ 2019 Leinster Senior Football Championship final ✅ 2020 Connacht Senior Football Championship final, now there is also a special story concerning the coin that confronts the two captains at the beginning of each of Hurson's games, it is a punt with Hurson's initials carved into it and presented to him by an umpire of his called Dermot McCaffrey the week before he died in February 2019, McCaffrey having advised Hurson that he would be there in spirit for the coin toss if he used it and that coin is kept by Hurson's umpires and deployed before every game in McCaffrey's memory.[8]
