Lynda Frese (born January 25, 1956) is a Visionary surrealist painter, photographer, and printmaker exploring relationships between humans and the natural world. Her work draws upon prehistoric peoples, Renaissance religious themes and various rituals referencing the sacredness of nature. [1]
Early life and education
Though born in Jacksonville, Florida, Frese grew up in Rhode Island to later study art along the west coast. Frese received both her BFA and MFA from the University of California at Davis. She attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine and joined the faculty of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1986 where she taught photography for 30 years. She received the 2013 Distinguished Professor award for her scholarly work and is recognized as Professor Emerita. She has participated as an artist-in-residence for the Rockefeller Bellagio Center, the Liguria Center for the Arts and Humanities and the American Academy in Rome. She is currently working in Southeastern Louisiana. [2]
