I have had a Wikipedia account longer than User:Example. I have done a decent amount of basic/minor editing on Wikipedia over the years while not logged in.
Reasons I have done those edits while not logged in include:
[edit]- I think people should be able to edit Wikipedia while not logged in.
- It has gotten increasingly harder to make simple edits over the years. (I get it. Bots. Spam. Vandalism.)
- At one point, I was on a network that had been banned and literally could not make edits without logging in. Or, if I theoretically could have, the process to do so was byzantine. So, I just didn't make the edits.
- I have had edits that I put a lot of time into (and did right) reverted instead of a simple repair being made.
- Boyzone
- Wikipedia's stance on herbalism
- Privacy. I mean, nobody really cares what I read but me. But any time I make an edit, it will be associated with me. Imagine if the public library published all the books you ever checked out.
Reason I'm making edits while logged in now:
[edit]- I was BAITED. "Over 90 of the world's top subscription-only databases, with content in 33 languages, free for Wikipedians of all backgrounds" - requires 500+ edits. But anyone reading this should also know about SciHub, where they believe access to information is a human right.
