Dameer Khan, (Bengali:দামীর খান) known mononymously as Dameer, is a Bangladeshi musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer.[1] Born and raised in Dhaka, he spent much of career in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.[2] His music primarily falls under the indie-pop and jazz genre.[3][4] Dameer's debut EP "For We Are Distant" was released on February 26, 2021.[5]

Biography

Early life

Dameer was born on Nov 17, 2000, in Dhaka. He is the eldest son of Shahbaz ‘Pilu’ Khan, a former musician, who was a band member of Renaissance.[6] He started playing instruments at an early age.[7]

Career

When he was 16, he started sending music samples to different labels. He continued making demos, producing music. He was later signed by the German label Majestic Casual Records, at the age of 17.[8] Dameer came under limelight after the release of his single Amar Jaan, in January 2021.[9][10] The song was inspired by a long-distance relationship.[11] The song and accompanying music video received praise from music critics.[12][11] In February 2021, Dameer released his debut EP "For We Are Distant", comprised of 7 tracks. The EP garnered positive feedback from critics.[13][14][15] From 2022, Dameer started releasing songs independently, starting with "Bhasbo Bhalo", his first independent release.[15]

Musical style

Dameer's music has been described as lo-fi, bedroom pop,[16] alt-pop,[17] indie-pop, dream pop,[18] indie-rock,[19] and jazz.[20][14] Majority of Dameer's songs are in English. His songs also contain Bengali verses. Dameer's music is a combination of Western indie rock/pop and jazz with Bengali influences. His lyrics contains odes to heartbreak, positive romanticism, as well as politics and mental health.[1]

Music videos

Dameer produces and occasionally stars in the videos for his songs.[17] His music video for the song "Bhasbo Bhalo" was heavily praised and became one of his most popular hits. The video stars his father Pilu Khan, where he roams through an empty school building.[21]
