Defyhatenow South Sudan is a Community Based Organization legally registered in South Sudan in 2019[1]. Defyhatenow was initiated in 2013 after the conflict erupted in the country. Defyhatenow is a non-profitable organization initiated in 2014 by r0g_agency for open culture and critical transformation. The r0g _agency (also pronounced as: rogue) is a Berlin-based nonprofit dedicated to partnering with local grassroots organizations and governments to support open knowledge, open technology, and peacebuilding efforts in South Sudan, particularly those regions undergoing rapid and fundamental transformation, in order to support the development of healthy, peaceful societies[2][3].

The defyhatenow initiative, works on providing community-based and data-driven solutions to the problem of hate speech, disinformation and misinformation. Its work focuses on creating a framework for increasing trust between stakeholders through mobilizing civic action against all forms of hate speech and incitement to violence, including the disinformation created via the Covid-19 pandemic[4].

Defyhatenow working on supporting the voices and actions of young people working against online induced conflict within and outside affected regions by bringing youth, community leaders, grassroots organizations and further civil society stakeholders into a peace-oriented media and information literacy framework[5].

It also works on bridging the gaps of knowledge and creating awareness on social media mechanisms between those with access to technology and those without[6].
