Chris Rogers (thoroughbred jockey)

Eddie Arcaro often said the native of Hamilton was one of the most complete riders he had ridden against or watched.

Many horsemen consider Rogers the best jockey produced in Canada...

Life

Chris won his first race on his very first try- on Bon Marche at Toronto's Fort Erie track in 1941 and went on to win over 2,000 races in his career. He won the Queen's Plate (the Kentucky Derby is the American equivalent) three times- with Epic in 1949, McGill in 1950 and Cosllisteo, 1954. In 1958 he finished second to Tim Tam in the Kentucky Derby[1] and Preakness[2] riding Lincoln Road.(1)

Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame

Chris was inducted in 1977. [3]
