Galimzhan Yesenov (Kazakh: Ғалымжан Шахмарданұлы Есенов, Yesenov Galimzhan Shakhmardanovich; born 10 March 1982) is a Kazakhstani businessman, major shareholder of Jusan Bank,[1] founder of the scientific and educational foundation named after academician Shakhmardan Yesenov.[2]

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the corporate fund "Courage to be the first", which is the organizer of the annual international sports event "Almaty Marathon".

Early life and education

Galimzhan Shakhmardanovich Yesenov was born in 1982 in Alma-Ata. Grandson of the scientist, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Shakhmardan Yesenov.[3] Mother - Shagizat Yesenova.[4][5]

Graduated from the Eurasian Market Institute with a degree in Economics and Management, KazGUU University with a degree in Law and the Executive MBA program University of Chicago Booth School of Business[6].

Career

He began his career in 2002 in the agro-industrial complex "Golden Grain" as a manager of the department for the operation of equipment and fuel supply.[7]

From 2011 to 2013 — General Director of KNG Finance LLP (until May 2013 — Kaznitrogengaz).[8]

In April 2013, KNG Finance received the consent of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan to acquire the Kazakh bank ATFBank from the Italian UniCredit Group. At the same time, the National Bank also issued a permit to Galimzhan Yesenov to become a major participant in ATFBank JSC.[9][10]

From May 1, 2013 to December 30, 2020 — Chairman of the Board of Directors of ATFBank JSC, the fifth bank by assets in Kazakhstan.[11]

From December 2018 to May 2021, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kazphosphate LLP.[12]

In December 2020, he received the consent of the RSU "Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market" to acquire the status of a major participant in the Joint-Stock Company "First Heartland Jýsan Bank".[13]

Public activities

In February 2013, he founded the Academician Shakhmardan Yesenov Scientific[14][15] and Educational Foundation, which has widely known programs in its portfolio - "Scholarship Program",[16] "Internships in laboratories of the World", "Internships in US startups",[17] "Yessenov Data Lab".[18]

From July 4, 2015 to January 31 , 2020 — President of the Chess Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan;[19] [20]

Since March 1, 2017, he has been heading the Board of Trustees of the corporate fund "Courage to be the First",[21] which is the organizer of the annual international sports event "Almaty Marathon".[22]

On December 25, 2018 to February 20, 2020 — President of the United MMA Federation, President of the Association of United Federations of Kazakhstan in MMA and the Kazakhstan United Federation of Mixed Martial Arts MMA;[25]

From March 3, 2019 to July 04, 2022 — President of the Central Asian Triathlon Association President;[26] [27]

Since June 19, 2019 — Member of the Board of ASTC;[28]

From November 15, 2019 to April 11, 2022 — Member of the Board of Directors of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF);[29]

Member of YPO Kazakhstan.[30]

Family

He was married to Aizhan Yesim, daughter of a politician of Kazakhstan Akhmedjan Essimov.[31] There is a son Allen from a joint marriage. [32]
