Education and Career
Pershell received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Tennessee Martin[2] where she also competed as a bull rider on the UTM rodeo team.[3][4] She received her Ph. D in mathematics from Rice University in 2010.[5] Her dissertation, Some conditions for recognizing a 3-manifold group, was advised by John Hempel.[6][7] Pershell has fulfilled a variety of roles after earning her Ph. D. As a Fulbright Scholar, she taught mathematics at the University of Hyderabad from 2012 to 2013.[8] From 2018 to 2020, she served as the Executive Director for the Association for Women in Mathematics.[9] She currently works as the COO and Director of Strategy and Evaluation for Service Robotics and Technologies.[1] As one of the founders of SRT Labs[10], Pershell shares a robotics related software patent with Gregory Scott (also one of SRT Labs' founders).[11][12]
