Personal life
Ulbrich was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1966.[3] His father was a businessman and owned his own company, importing and trading timber.[3] Instead of joining the family business, he decided to go into banking and undertook a bank internship.[3] Following his internship, he studied at the University of Hamburg.[4]
Career
After early roles at MeesPierson and Rabobank Nederland, in 1995 Ulbrich joined the executive board of Bank Companie Nord ,[3] and in 1996 was named its CEO.[4] Ulbrich led Bank Companie Nord through a turn-around of its operations and acquisition by another company. Based on this experience, Warburg Bank hired him to lead its real estate group HIH.[3][4]
JLL appointed him as the managing director of its German operations in 2005.[3] The company promoted him to CEO of JLL EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) in January 2009.[5] In 2016, JLL named him as its global president and he became a member of its board of directors.[6] Later that year, he also became the company's global CEO.[7] In his promotion to this role, he reportedly became the first German in global leadership of one of the major real estate companies.[7] In 2019, Commercial Property Executive named Ulbrich as its service executive of the year.[8]
Ulbrich serves on the World Economic Forum's International Business Council and its Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders.[9]
