Matt Duffield is an American politician. He serves as a Republican member for the 53rd district of the Arkansas House of Representatives.[1]

Life and career

Duffield attended Russellville High School and Harding University.[1][2]

Duffield has appeared in movies, television shows, and competed in professional wrestling under the ring name Matt Riviera, retiring in 2021.

In 2022, Duffield defeated Doug Skelton and David J. Howell in the Republican primary election for the 53rd district of the Arkansas House of Representatives.[3] No candidate was nominated to challenge him in the general election. He assumed office in 2023.

Tenure

As a freshman, Duffield sponsored various pieces of legislation which were signed into law[4], including the creation of a state sales tax exemption for the Disabled American Veterans organization[5], and an act to clarify the definition of a “Loaded Firearm” for the purpose of the state statute concerning the possession and use of a weapon.[6]

On March 27, 2023, the Arkansas House passed a Duffield sponsored resolution to proclaim “The Right to Keep and Bear Arms Day” in the state of Arkansas.[7]
