101.7 The Patriot (101.7 MHz) is an Americana/Texas Country/Southern Rock FM radio station serving the Abilene, Texas, area and licensed to nearby Hawley, Texas.

Current Programming

On August 21, 2023, a format called 101.7 The Patriot launched officially on-air, bringing music radio presented in a way never done before in the market, including Americana, Southern Rock, and Texas Red Dirt Country, with a healthy love of local artists both established and up and coming featured. The station also brings for the first time ever Texas Rangers (baseball) Radio Network broadcasts to West Central Texas in FM radio quality.

KKHR is held by local community ownership and is operated by local staff.

History

Then operating under the calls KTJK, the station began airing content under a new commercial license in late winter 2018, adopting its current variety hits format after a seasonal broadcast of all Christmas music.[1] The license and equipment was purchased in spring 2021 by WesTex Telco, and operated as variety hits 101.7 The Raider.[2]

On August 1, 2023, KKHR (then licensed to Abilene on 106.3FM) dropped its 35-year plus hispanic format and began broadcasting a simulcast of variety hits sister station KTJK as "106.3 The Raider."

On August 8, 2023, KKHR swapped calls with sister KTJK, permanently moving the company's flagship variety hits The Raider to the larger 106.3 signal and KKHR to 101.7, beginning a new format branded as "101.7 The Patriot." Following the swap, both signals continued broadcasting in HD Radio.
