I love correct spelling and grammar - and more importantly, clear English. (I write in British English myself, but I also recognise American English and I will keep to this where it's already in place). I don't mean to sound superior, but I was brought up in the days when we learned spelling and grammar rigorously at school and university, that's why..
I was also lucky to be trained in proofreading when I was young.. I was sub-editor (the one who does the real work) on my university's newspaper, an eight-page fortnightly broadsheet, and I learned from the printers, who were real professionals (I was fascinated by their skills with quoins, rules, fonts, reading upside-down back to front, and so on). I had to correct galleys and proofs, as well as writing most of the copy and sourcing the pictures myself, so I learned fast.
So, most of my edits are simple typo corrections and clarifications, rarely anything more complex.
