DeWayne Carter is an American football defensive tackle for the Duke Blue Devils.

Early life and high school

Carter grew up in Pickerington, Ohio and attended Pickerington Central High School. Carter was named All-Metro Team Defensive Player of Year by The Columbus Dispatch after finishing his senior year with 83 tackles with eight being for a loss, and five sacks.[1] Carter would decide to commit to play college football at Duke.[2][3]

College career

In Carter's first season he recorded just one tackle on the season versus Alabama.[4] In 2020, Carter tallied 11 tackles with 2.5 going for a loss, and a sack. Carter also recorded one reception for 11 yards.[5] Carter would start the season strong as in week three he had a career performance, tallying three tackles with one being for a loss, and two forced fumbles, as he helped Duke beat Northwestern.[6][7] Carter finished the 2021 season with 36 tackles and 7.5 going for a loss, 4.5 sacks, three pass deflections, and four forced fumbles.[8] For his performance on the year, Carter would be named third team all ACC.[9][10] Carter would open the 2022 season strong, as in week two he tallied four tackles with one being for a loss, a sack, and a forced fumble, as he would help the Blue Devils beat Northwestern 31–23.[11][12] In week eight, Carter would have another great performance, racking up two tackles with one being for a loss, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble, as he would help Duke beat Miami 45–21.[13][14] In the team's following game, in week ten, Carter would continue to excel as he totalled five tackles with two going for a loss, and two sacks, as he helped the Blue Devils beat Boston College and become bowl eligible for the first time since the 2018 season.[15] Carter would finish the 2022 season with 36 tackles and 11 being for a loss, 5.5 sacks, four pass deflections, three fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, and a touchdown.[16] For his performance on the season, Carter would be named as a member of the all ACC second team.[17][18] Carter was named to the perseason all ACC first team, for the upcoming 2023 season.[19][20] Carter was also named to the Bronco Nagurski award preseason watch list.[21]
