Freddi Fish and Luther's Water Worries is a video game developed by Humongous Entertainment. It is based on the Freddi Fish video games and part of the Junior Arcade series. The game was released on February 24, 1997, along with Freddi Fish and Luther's Maze Madness.[1]

Development

The titles of this game and Freddi Fish and Luther's Maze Madness were revealed at the same time that Putt-Putt and Pep's Balloon-o-Rama and Putt-Putt and Pep's Dog on a Stick were announced.[2]

Gameplay

The gameplay involves the player controlling Luther by clicking the mouse to shoot at bubbles with his slingshot in order to drop worm doodles and free sea creatures trapped in the bubbles. If a bubble reaches the surface, it will cause the water level to decrease slightly; if the water level goes down too much, the player will lose the level and have to start again. Some bubbles have enemies inside them, and they can hinder Luther's progress in some way; those kinds of bubbles can be recognized by their red outline. Luther has other weaknesses as well, such as getting exhausted if the player shoots the slingshot too fast or getting trapped in a big bubble; in these situations, Luther will be unable to fire his slingshot until he recovers.

In every fifth level (starting with Level 10), a bonus level can be unlocked by collecting letters found in some of the bubbles to spell the word "BONUS". The gameplay in bonus levels is very different from the main levels, in which the player must use a net to catch as many pearls as they can before time runs out, while avoiding being stung by jellyfish. Black pearls spawn occasionally in the level and will give Luther extra lives if caught.

Unlike other Junior Arcade games, this game features a 2-player mode, which allows another player to control Freddi Fish in her own segments of the levels. Another mode called "Melee" has the player play a random level and collect an unlimited amount of worm doodles until the water level drops down too low.

Plot

While going on a picnic, Luther and Freddi discover a whirlpool and the former starts playing on it before inadvertently getting sucked in the hole. Afterwards, Luther discovers that he is inside the caves and agrees to meet with Freddi on the other side, collecting worm doodles along the way. At the end of the game, Freddi waits for Luther on the outside of the cave, when he finally appears. However, having been filled up with worm doodles, Luther loses his appetite, so he and Freddi go home.
