Philip Agbese is the member representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo federal constituency of Benue State, Nigeria.[1] He is a conflict manager, security strategist, human rights activist, and public affairs, analyst. A trained lawyer, he is also an author and media executive.

Family and Early Life

Agbese was born on 25th February 1987 to the royal family in Agilaland, Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.

Education

Agbese began his education at LGEA Primary School Agila in 1992. On completion in 1998, he proceeded to the Federal Government College, Ugwolawo, Kogi State. He then attended the University of Ilorin between 2005 to 2009 to pursue a degree in Biochemistry.[2]

Agbese moved to the United Kingdom in 2015 and bagged a degree in law at the prestigious Middlesex University London three years later. He obtained an MBA from the University of Chichester in 2020 and a master's in human rights law from Middlesex a year later.

A strategic communication expert, Agbese also holds a Diploma in Freelance Journalism from the British College of Journalism.

Career

Agbese worked at the Centre for Social Justice, Equity, and Transparency between 2012 and 2015. He is a Principal Partner, at Preventive Diplomacy, Geneva, Switzerland. In 2015, he founded Global Amnesty Watch, in London.[3]One year later,[4] Agbese founded TheNigerian News Group, a media organisation, also in London. He has authored numerous books and articles locally and internationally. [5] [6]

Politics

Agbese was an active student politician while in Nigeria. He was overwhelmingly voted into the Senate, Faculty of Science (Unilorin) in 2006 and served between 2006/2007 as Senate Committee Chairman, Communication and Publicity. He is the Pioneer President of the National Association of Idoma Students (NAIS - Unilorin) 2007/2008 session.

Agbese worked closely with two different Nigerian administrations. However, he delved into politics in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress. He won the party's ticket for the Ado/ Ogbadibo/ Okpokwu federal constituency in 2022[7]. He was declared winner of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission in February 2023, defeating his closest challengers from the People's Democratic Party and Labour Party.

Legislative Agenda

In his acceptance speech, Agbese declared that his victory was for everyone including his major challengers. His campaign was built on promises to better the lives of his people.

In the Green Chamber, Agbese says his legislative interests are centered on his major strengths; defense, national security, education, human rights, communication as well as sustainable development goals. As one of the youngest parliamentarians in history, he promised to advocate for the youth, upholding their interests at all times.

Philanthropy

Agbese is renowned for his humanitarian efforts in his constituency as well as the Northeast. He holds the traditional title of Okanga Agila in his homeland.
