2007 Iranian arrest of Royal Navy personnel
The March 2007 British Marines incident occured on March 23, 2007 in international waters and involved the British Royal Navy and the Iranian Navy. Fifteen British Marines boarded an Iranian boat suspected of smuggling automobiles and were ambushed by six Iranian Guard boats. The Marines were then kidnapped and taken to Iran.
