McConnell or McConnel is an Irish and Scottish surname.[1] It is derived from the Gaelic Mac Dhòmhnaill (see MacDonnell).[2] Alternatively in Ireland, it may be derived from Mac Conaill meaning 'son of Conall', a given name composed of the elements con (from meaning 'hound') and gal (meaning 'valour').[3]
