Jordan Temple IV is an American comedian, writer, actor, playwright, and producer. He is known for his stand-up comedy and for writing for the television series Abbott Elementary, Atlanta, Mythic Quest, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Temple is also known for writing and starring in the satirical mash-up stage plays Hidden Fences and The Color Urkel, which both debuted at the New York Comedy Festival.

Early Life

Jordan Temple was born and raised in New York City. Temple has stated that he is from Queens and was raised in the projects. Temple has also stated that he was raised by a single mother. For his appearance at the Emmy Awards Ceremony in 2022, Temple took his mother with him as his plus one—that he attended as a nominee for his writing for Abbott Elementary. He said said of that night, "It was a nice full circle moment for my family. I was double-nominated, but it didn’t matter because I already won."

Career

Television Writing & Producing

In 2018, Jordan Temple was a staff writer on Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day's Mythic Quest series on Apple TV+. In 2019, Temple was a story editor for eight episodes of season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series on Amazon Prime Video. For season 4 of the show, he was a co-producer. In 2021, Temple was a writer for Teenage Euthenasia on Adult Swim. In 2022, he was a writer and co-producer for season three of Donald Glover's show Atlanta on FX, and was a co-producer for season 4. From 2022-2023, Temple was a writer-producer for seasons 1 and 2 of Quinta Brunson's Abbott Elementary series on ABC, writing four episodes over two seasons. In 2023, Temple was a guest writer for Saturday Night Live. That same year, he was a creative consultant for The Eric Andre Show and and a writing consultant for Teenage Euthenasia. He has previously written for the Golden-Globe nominated series SMILF and The Rundown with Robin Thede on BET.

Stand-up Comedy

Jordan Temple has filmed stand-up sets for TBS's Conan hosted by Conan O'Brien, Comedy Central Stand Up Featuring, and Netflix's Bill Burr Presents: The Ringers hosted by Bill Burr. In 2018, Jordan performed at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, where he was named a “New Face” of comedy.

Theatre Work

In 2017, Jordan Temple wrote and starred in the original comedic stage play, Hidden Fences, which premise was based on the viral mistake made at the 2017 Golden Globes and Academy Awards where Michael Keaton and Jenna Bush Hager mistakenly referred to Hidden Figures as Hidden Fences, which combined the names of two nominated movies, Hidden Figures and Fences. In the play Hidden Fences, the satirized version of Denzel Washington's Fences character Troy Maxon, who wants to be the first black man to hit a baseball into space, and the hidden figures do the math to help him achieve this. The play stars Jordan Temple as Troy Maxon, with Mamoudou N'Diaye, Karolena Theresa, Shalewa Sharpe, Tahlia Robinson, Clark Jones, Holden McNeely, Julian Williams, Gary Richardson, and James III, and was hosted by Langston Kerman. The play sold out four times and debuted at The Bell House for the 2017 New York Comedy Festival.

In June 2018, Hidden Fences made it's Los Angeles debut at The Dynasty Typewriter at Hayworth Theatre, starring and produced by Jermaine Fowler.

In October of 2017, Temple staged his follow-up to Hidden Fences, a one-act play entitled The Color Urkel, which loosely combined the narrative of The Color Purple with the characters Steve Urkel and Stefon Urquelle from the sitcom series Family Matters. In November 2018, The Color Urkel also made it’s New York Comedy Festival debut.

In 2023, Jordan Temple wrote and performed Sweet Lorraine, an "experimental one-man show" about the life of his grandmother, Lorraine Temple. The show "tells the story of her life through jokes, stories and one-act plays pulled from [Jordan Temple's] fondest memories with her."

Accolades

Temple has been nominated for two Emmy Awards for his writing for Abbott Elementary, which was nominated twice for Outstanding Comedy Series. He has also been nominated for three Writers Guild of America (WGA) Awards for Abbott Elementary, for the categories Comedy Series and New Series, and for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, for Comedy Series. In 2022, Temple won a Pena de Prata Award for Best Comedy Series for Abbott Elementary. And in 2023, Temple won two Peabody Awards in the Entertainment category for both Atlanta and Abbott Elementary.

As a stand-up, Temple was just named a 2018 Just For Laughs “New Face,” and a TBS “Comic to Watch” in 2017, where he subsequently made his stand-up debut on Conan O'Brien's Conan.
