The Feeling

The Feeling are a five-piece Brit award-nominated English band from Sussex and London. The guitar-based "soft rock" band categorise their music as "pop". Their "middle-of-the-road" sound has been compared to a range of acts including Supertramp, 10cc, The Bluetones, Electric Light Orchestra, Andrew Gold and Elton John.[citation needed]

Following a limited release of their debut "Fill My Little World" in late 2005, the band entered the UK Top 10 with their first full release "Sewn" in March 2006. The single was one of the year's biggest radio hits.

Their debut album Twelve Stops and Home was released in the UK on June 5, 2006 and on February 27, 2007 in the US.

In early 2007, Planet Sound announced that The Feeling were the most played band of 2006 on UK radio.[citation needed]

Members

The majority of the band are from Horsham, Sussex, with the exception of lead vocalist Sells, who is from London, and bassist Jones, who is from Forest Row, which is also in Sussex.

Their name comes from a small bar in Paris, which they thought fitting for a band but not for a bar.

They spent a lot of time in the Alps before their début doing covers (such as "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Buggles) and live gigs. It was revealed in a podcast for The Times that the band had "blagged" their way into this, saying they could perform fifty songs when in fact they only knew six.[citation needed]. The three members from Sussex went to St Wilfrid's Catholic School in Crawley, Sussex.

After championing The Feeling's "Sewn", BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles went on to use the group's second release, "Fill My Little World", as the theme tune to his Breakfast Show. To celebrate the release of Twelve Stops and Home, the band's record company, Island Records, took 120 British music journalists on the Eurostar to Paris for the day, where the band performed live in a restaurant. This was in recognition of the fact the band took their name from a Parisian bar.

The single "Sewn" reached #7 on the UK Singles Chart in March 2006, followed by the #10 hit "Fill My Little World" in May 2006. This release spent 4 consecutive weeks at #16 and outsold the band's debut. "Never Be Lonely" was released in August 2006 and became their third top ten hit, peaking at #9, where it stayed for 2 weeks.

The band maintains a blog on The Sun website: On tour with The Feeling while on UK tour.

They were featured at many of the summer music festivals, including T In The Park, V Festival and Oxegen Festival. They also played at the Jesus May Ball on June 19, 2006.

They appeared on the opening episode of "The Charlotte Church Show" on September 1, 2006, performing their hit song "Never Be Lonely" with Charlotte Church providing background vocals.

They appeared on Children in Need 2006 performing "Love It When You Call".

They also appeared on "Al Murray's Happy Hour" on January 20 2007 performing "Love It When You Call".

Bassist Richard Jones is married to pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor and they have a child, Sonny, who was born in April 2004.

Dan Gillespie Sells and Richard Jones met as music students at the BRIT School in Croydon, Surrey in 1995. They were members of one of the school's most popular bands, "Horn".

"Fill My Little World" was the music used in the farewell montage on the last ever The Vicar of Dibley on New Year's Day 2007.

In an e-mail newsletter released on January 11, 2007, it was announced that The Feeling were the number one most played band on UK radio in 2006. Their four singles received a total of 97,436 plays, which meant that, on average, a song by The Feeling was played 267 times every day, or once every 5 minutes.

The single "Sewn" features on the soundtrack of the video game, FIFA 07.

In 2006, The Feeling toured the USA, opening for The Fray and strengthening their ever-growing following across the Atlantic. They are selling an EP called Four Stops and Home along the way. It consists of "Sewn", "Helicopter", "When I Return" and "All You Need To Do".

During Razorlight's spring 2006 tour, The Feeling was the support band for Razorlight. In March 2006, The Feeling opened for Nada Surf on their only UK tour date. [1]

In late 2006 to early 2007, The Feeling toured the UK on their biggest native tour to date, performing in Brighton, Bournemouth, Glasgow, Cambridge, Newcastle upon Tyne, Cardiff, Belfast, Bristol, Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester and London amongst other cities, with The Fray opening. The tour ended at the Hammersmith Apollo in London on March 3, 2007.

Upcoming

In March 2007, The Feeling will begin a tour of their own in the USA.

"Never Be Lonely" has been nominated for Best Track in this years Q Awards, along with Arctic Monkeys' "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor", Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars", Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" and Scissor Sisters' "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'".

In another e-mail newsletter released January 25, 2007, Kevin revealed that recording for the band's second album had started. The only confirmed track on this album is "Join With Us", which the band are currently playing on tour. The majority of the recording for the album is to take place in a country house.

The Feeling will be playing at this year's Isle of Wight Festival, playing on the opening day, 8th June, along with Snow Patrol.
