Reinard Zandvoort

Reinard Willem Zandvoort (July 2, 1894 – August 7, 1990) was a Dutch professor.[1] He taught English at the University of Groningen.[2] He received honorary doctorates from several universities, and was a Commander in the Order of the British Empire.[3]

Biography

In 1913, he studied English at the University of Groningen and was an assistant teacher in Maidenhead from 1914 to 1916.[2]

In 1929, he received his PhD cum laude from Leiden University.[2]

In 1936, Zandvoort was appointed a tutor for English philology at Leiden University, and was appointed professor in 1937.[2]

He retired in 1964.[2]

Personal life

Zandvoort was married and had three children; two of which died young.[2]
