The answer to that is actually wikilinked in the article but it may not have been when you first posted this question. The expert's full name is George Jean Nathan. He was a respected, influential drama critic and theater historian. Admittedly, the article about him is a little thin and should be expanded. It spends more time on his personal fame than his work.
