"Naval Wars in the Levant" says that this ship & her sister were captured on the stocks at Venice by the French 17 May 1797 (not Nov 1796) along with 6 other frigates & 13 ships of the line (mostly small). But they couldn't really have been designed by the French any either case.

They were both partly disarmed & used as storeships, went to Alexandria & carried Napoleon back to France Aug-Oct 1799. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.200.17.52 (talk) 07:58, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct, Venice fell to Bonaparte in May 1797. I will clarify the dates. Benea (talk) 08:09, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
