"Fantasize"[note 1] is an unreleased song by American singer Ariana Grande. The song was demoed by Grande herself for a TV show. The song's lyrics are about Grande’s expresses of emotional and physical weakness due to the unavailability of the person they are interested in. While others are showing interest towards Grande, she is simply not interested in anyone else expect for the person she’s eyeing on.
In August 19, 2023, the song was uploaded illegally to streaming services under the title “BUT JUST BEFORE I GO, THERES SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW”. The song entered the Spotify Philippines chart at #200 before shortly being removed.
Background and recording
Recording sessions of the song began around August-September 2021.[citation needed] It was written by the singer with producers of the song Max Martin and Savan Kotecha.[citation needed] Grande has stated that the song was originally recorded as a demo for a musical TV show.[2]
Leak and legal issues
The full song leaked on June 25, 2023, alongside its studio sessions.[citation needed] A month later after the song’s leak, it began to see a big resurgence of popularity on TikTok. Several videos uploaded on the app using the song earned over 100K likes and 1M views each. It was also featured in over 3K videos in the last 24 hours on July 31, 2023.[citation needed]
On August 19, 2023, a Spotify page under the alias, “Adriana Venti”, illegally uploaded the song to streaming services under the title “BUT JUST BEFORE I GO, THERES SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW”.[3] The track ended up making waves on multiple official Spotify charts. On September 4, 2023, the song entered the Spotify Philippines chart at #200, while receiving over 300K daily streams.[4]
The track was later then quickly taken down on streaming services a day after. The fan who had uploaded the song to streaming services had previously been fined $10K due to the actions.[citation needed]
