Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/Women's Art Register
This project page helps with the ongoing collaborative project of creating and editing Wikipedia pages relating to artists with archives in the Women's Art Register, but also to other Australian women artists and the institutions that support them.
This page is organised into three sections according to editing experience:
- Newbies: easy tasks for new Wikipedia editors
- Middies: general editing tasks for editors with some experience
- Oldies: tasks for editors with considerable experience
There is also the option of writing only. This is good for people want to write up Wikipedia pages but don't want to deal with editing the pages. In this case send your writing in a Word document to one of the WAR organisers to upload to Wikipedia.

Add information to existing articles
If you add information to an existing article, always insert a citation to a reference source after each sentence or exhibition title if it is in a list. See: Wikipedia:Citing sources. For examples of citations to references including a reference for each exhibition see: Elizabeth Gower, Polixeni Papapetrou, Marcella Hempel, Rosalie Gascoigne.

Pages to create
In the table below:
Artist: The names with red links do not have a Wikipedia page yet. Users can click on the red link and go straight to creating a page. Once a page for that artist has been created, the link will become a blue hyperlink to the artist’s Wikipedia page.
WD: The WD column gives the wikidata item number for the artist. Wikidata is a database providing information and data about a person or a subject. Click on the Wikidata number to find starter reference sources about the artist. If you are a new editor you don't have to add to the wikidata item, you can just use it as source of information.
Resources: This column provides links to some open access sites where users can find information about the artist to include in her article. If the artist has an article, you can also refer to the list of references at the bottom of the page. Sources of online information about artists can be found on the Know My Name project page.
Comments: The comments suggest either improvements to be made to existing articles or an article which could be created for an artist. Editors who are new to Wikipedia may want to practice making edits first on the "Add more information" articles. Confident editors may like to start a new article. If you want to write a new article for an artist not on the list, please talk to one of the facilitators first.
Username: Please add your username to the table to show which article you are working so there are no double-ups on work.
If you start a new article for an artist it is important that you add in enough information in the first paragraphs to show they are notable. See:Wikipedia:Notability (people), Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Creative professionals, Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biography#Opening paragraph. For examples of notability shown in lead paragraphs see: Dorrit Black, Vivienne Binns, Grace Cossington Smith.
Wikipedia policy on Notability/Creative professionals
This guideline applies to authors, editors, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, artists, architects, and other creative professionals. Such a person is notable if:
- The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors; or
- The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory, or technique; or
- The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews, or of an independent and notable work (for example, a book, film, or television series, but usually not a single episode of a television series); or
- The person's work (or works) has: (a) become a significant monument, (b) been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) won significant critical attention, or (d) been represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.
