On April 5, 2024, an earthquake occurred in New Jersey. It had relatively minor impacts, with no major damage reported in New York or New Jersey.[2] The earthquake had a magnitude of 4.8, a depth of 4.7 km, and its epicenter was 40.683°N 74.753°W, in Tewksbury Township, New Jersey, which is about 1 mile north of Oldwick and 5 miles east of Lebanon, along the Ramapo Fault.[3]
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake is the third-strongest to affect the New York region in recorded history.[4] It was the strongest earthquake to strike New Jersey and the New York region since the 5.3 Mfa 1783 New Jersey earthquake.[5][6][improper synthesis?]
Impact
Buildings in New York City were lightly shaken.[7] Tremors were felt all across the Northeast from Maryland to Maine.[8]

The PATCO Speedline temporarily suspended service.[8]
Transportation
The Federal Aviation Administration paused flights at Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport.[9]
