James Ferrier (14 June 1810 - 9 August 1885) was a Scottish painter.
Life
[edit]His father was William Ferrier (born 18 January 1786) from Edinburgh, a bookbinder.
His mother was Euphemia Burdon (born c. 1791) from Edinburgh. William and Euphemia married on 8 August 1809.
James Ferrier was born 14 June 1810 in Edinburgh, the eldest of their seven children.
He married Elizabeth Stuckey (born c. 1814) from Plymouth, England.
They had 10 children; 7 sons and 3 daughters. One of their sons was the artist George Straton Ferrier (15 March 1852 - 28 February 1912).

In the 1851 census, his occupation was a teacher of drawing. He stayed at 8 Heriot Place, Edinburgh.
In the 1861 census he was at 8 Keir Street.

[edit]He died on 9 August 1885 at his home in 11 Darnaway Street in Edinburgh. He was buried in Warriston cemetery. The value was his estate was £295.
Works
[edit]His works Fisherman By A Highland Lochside, Highland Loch, A Figure By A Stile In The Highlands, Highland Landscape With Figures And Cattle By A Croft, Highland Burn Near Fillans and Morlachan at the foot of Benvenue are known.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
