Patent Case

In June 2012, as Xiao-i sued Apple Inc., Max Yuan Hui was involved into the eight-year-long patent invalidity litigation. The Xiao-i chatbot had been granted a patent in 2009 (Patent No.: ZL200410053749.9), described as a chat robot system that “can complete conversations in natural language,” and Max Yuan Hui believed that the features and technical path between the Xiao-i chatbot and Apple's Siri were consistent.[12] After multiple rounds of appeals and trials, the Supreme People's Court Of the People's Republic of China made a final ruling in June 2020, upholding the validity of Xiao-i’s patent.[13]

In September 2021, Xiao-i demanded that Apple cease the sale of iPhone products that have allegedly infringed on Xiao-i's patent and claimed RMB 10 billion in compensation.[14]

As of today, this dispute remains unresolved.
