Somdip Dey (born December 13, 1990), also known professionally as InteliDey, is an Indian-born Artificial Intelligence scientist, entrepreneur, and record producer. He is a clinical professor of AI & ML at Woxsen University, a lecturer of Data Science at York St John University, and a lecturer of Computer Science at the University of Essex.[1] Dey is the co-founder and CEO of Nosh Technologies, a technology company focused on reducing food waste through machine learning and AI. He has been named an MIT Innovator Under 35 in Europe and a World IP Review Leader in the UK.[2] Dey writes a column titled "A Window to the Tech World" for the Times of India and contributes to publications such as the Free Press Journal, The Conversation, and Forbes Technology Council. In 2020, He gave a TEDx talk at Colchester, UK, with the title "Are We Developing Artificial Intelligence To Support Humanity?" . Dey completed the 2024 London Marathon without any training and after performing an all-night DJ set at a music event the morning on the day of the marathon.[3]

Education and Early Life

Somdip Dey completed his BSc degree in Computer Science from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, India, in 2012. He then went on to complete his MSc degree in Advanced Computer Science from the University of Manchester in 2014. In 2023, he completed his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Essex.

Career

Somdip Dey began his career at Samsung Electronics, where he collaborated with the University of Essex to develop a machine learning algorithm that optimizes battery consumption in smartphones based on user interactions. This work was presented at the DATE 2020 conference. He later joined the National Centre for Nuclear Robotics, where he co-developed SoCodeCNN, a methodology that bridges natural language processing and computer vision using convolutional neural networks to increase the resilience of electronic systems against radiation damage. The research team behind SoCodeCNN included Dey, Klaus McDonald-Maier, Amit Kumar Singh, and Dilip Kumar Prasad. The paper on SoCodeCNN was highlighted as the most popular paper in the IEEE Access journal after publication. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dey co-developed the Nosh app, a mobile application that reduces food waste in households using embedded machine learning. Due to the app's popularity, Dey and computer engineer Suman Saha co-founded Nosh Technologies, a deep tech company focused on developing algorithms and technologies to reduce food waste.[4] The Nosh app was featured and presented at The Disrupt Desk for Impact at TechCrunch Disrupt 2021 and has been praised by The Independent and Delish.com as one of the leading apps to reduce food waste. Dey has raised grant funding from Innovate UK to further develop the Nosh app.

Music Production

In 2021, after a failed fundraising attempt for Nosh Technologies, Somdip Dey began producing music and art using AI algorithms under the moniker InteliDey. He later shifted to producing music using a mix of digital audio workstation and AI algorithms. His single track "Agare (Club Edition)" reached #1 in the Progressive House genre on the Audiomack music streaming platform in early January 2024.
