Sharon Elayne Fair (born April 23, 1960) is an American writer and activist to end stigma. Fair co-founded the Wellness Society in 1981 with her brother Michael Fair, who was killed in 1983 while serving in the U.S. Special Forces as a green beret in Morocco.The society was re-incorporated as a non-profit in 2024.[1]. Fair authored Wellness and Physical Therapy in 2010[2] and Wellness and Holistic Physical Therapy in 2023[3]
Fair advocates for the plant-based diet and against the inhumane treatment of animals.[4][5] Fair openly criticized Lierre Keith's book The Vegetarian Myth during a February 2023 video podcast.[6] Fair has Bipolar affective disorder, type 1, and advocates to eliminate stigma against those with a mental illness.[7][8] Fair is an atheist and advocates to eliminate stigma against atheism.[9][10]
Fair has been a licensed physical therapist since 1993[11][12]. Between 2000 and 2008, she served as an associate professor at the University of St Augustine for Health Sciences. Purportedly, she was terminated from the university due to her atheism.[13] She was later terminated by Welcome Home Care, a home health agency based in Jacksonville, Florida due to her Bipolar affective disorder, type 1 and her request for ADA Reasonable accommodations. She sued the agency for discrimination and settled out of court for an undisclosed amount[[1]].
