The UMass Donahue Institute is a public service, research, and economic development unit of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.[1] The institute conducts research and provides technical assistance to public and private organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions
History
The UMass Donahue Institute was founded to offer applied research, training, and technical assistance to enhance the performance and effectiveness of organizations across various sectors.[2] It was originally established by Maurice A. Donahue in 1971 as the Institute for Governmental Services at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In February 1989 the institute was renamed in his honor and is now known as the UMass Donahue Institute.[2]
Services
The institute provides a range of services including economic and public policy research, workforce development, and educational assessment. Its research centers focus on areas such as demographics, applied research, economic and public policy, organizational development, and public health.[3]
Studies and Reporting
The institute carries out studies and creates detailed reports to support policy-making and organizational development.
In one such recent study, the Donahue Institute concluded that the University of Massachusetts Amherst generated $2.9 billion in economic impact for the state of Massachusetts.[4][5]
