Tourmaline is a rock band from Verona, NJ that formed in June of 2004. The band consists of Matt Rauch (lead vocals, guitar), Justin Niemiec (bass), Corey Zaloom – (Synthesizer, Piano) Ryan Baredes (lead guitar), and Max Rauch (drums). They have released two albums. Their first album, Strange Distress Calls was released in the US a year after the bands formation on June 21, 2005. [1]

Strange Distress Calls, their first full-length released on No Milk Records, has sold over 4,000 copies. The release was well received by many critics getting positive reviews from Absolutepunk.net [2], Punknews.org [3] as well as receiving four out of five stars from All Music Guide. [4]

The band's first song to gain significant attention was "Blank”, which fell into rotation on many college radio stations during the summer of 2005, while they were on tour with Socratic (Drive-thru Records). It was also featured on a many complications (Drive-thru, No Milk and Platform Group). [5]

In late 2005 Tourmaline ended their association with No Milk Records. It is unclear exactly what happened, but there was plenty speculation and gossip soon after the split.

In late December of 2005 Justin Niemiec replaced Tourmaline’s second bassist and has been in the group since. [6]

Tourmaline later went on to tour with Cute is What We Aim For (Fueled By Ramen), David Melilo (Drive-thru), The Forecast (Victory), Socratic (Drive-thru), Mashlin (111), Self Against City (Drive-thru) and others.

While on the “In the Shadow of Two Gun Men” tour with The Forecast, Socratic and Mashlin they released a tour E.P., which was also made available for free download on Absolutepunk.net. At this time they also had “Bent” receive airplay on NJ radio station 105.5 FM WDHA.

They also have gained a very impressive presence in the online community with over 100,000 fans on Myspace.com [7] and over 400,000 plays on Purevolume.com. [8]

Matt Rauch has also recently produced an EP for Drive Thru Records' Socratic. [9]

In a recent interview conducted with Tourmaline, Matt stated that they are currently demoing songs for there new record at his in house studio. A release date for the new record has not yet been set. [10]
