The highlight of the second quarter of 2024 is an activity that, while routine, plays a fundamental role in Wiki Movimento Brasil and has been systematically carried out over the past six years: the WMB bimonthly meetings.[1] These meetings foster a culture of transparency and inclusivity, ensuring that members feel valued and informed about the organization's activities and decisions. By providing a platform for open dialogue, they encourage the sharing of diverse perspectives, leading to more innovative solutions and better decision-making. Additionally, these meetings demonstrate a commitment to accountability, as members can directly inquire about the organization's operations and leadership choices, promoting trust and confidence within the community. WMB meetings alternate between those closed to organization members and those open to the entire community. During the open meetings, two individuals are always invited to speak on topics relevant to the Wikimedia community and free knowledge. So, these meetings promoted by WMB also dialogue directly with some of the organization's strategic axes[2] established for the years 2023 and 2025, in particular:

  • Encourage community health through new spaces for communication and integration between experienced volunteers, new contributors, cultural, educational and social organizations and other free knowledge partners;[2]
  • Cooperate with affiliates and other interested parties in discussions and decisions about emerging governance structures in the Wikimedia Movement.[2]

Addressing open meetings specifically, inviting new participants to these meetings can significantly enhance WMB's growth and adaptability. Fresh insights from newcomers can challenge established norms and introduce new ideas, driving continuous improvement and preventing stagnation. These meetings also serve as valuable networking opportunities, helping to integrate new members into the community and fostering a sense of belonging and engagement. By actively involving both existing and prospective members in its proceedings, an organization like WMB not only strengthens its internal cohesion but also ensures its relevance and responsiveness to the changing needs and expectations of its broader stakeholder base.

At our last meeting,[3] topics such as the Movement Charter[4] and the challenges of using open and collaborative projects in academia were addressed by experts. There is a written record of all meetings,[1] and the video record has recently been made available on the WMB YouTube channel.[5]
