Mahdi Abshahi (born January 27, 2003), known online as Mahdi PES, is a popular Iranian YouTuber. He is best known for his content focused on Pro Evolution Soccer (PES).
Early Life
Mahdi Abshahi was born in the Salsabil neighborhood of Tehran. He was raised by his mother alongside his brother after his father attempted to place them in an orphanage. His mother, a school teacher, took full responsibility for their upbringing despite numerous challenges, including financial and emotional difficulties. Until the age of seven, Mahdi lived in Tehran and Shahr-e-Rey before moving with his family to Sari in Mazandaran province.
Passion for Football
From a young age, Mahdi developed a strong passion for football. His mother, noticing his enthusiasm, borrowed money to buy him a PlayStation 2. Mahdi preferred playing PES over FIFA, particularly enjoying PES 11. He was a fan of Esteghlal FC and often drew detailed pictures of the players and significant moments from their matches.
Football Career
After moving to Mazandaran, Mahdi's mother enrolled him and his brother in the Rah Sari football team. They later joined the Padideh Sari team and were selected for provincial games. However, due to financial constraints, their mother struggled to afford the costs associated with the matches. Despite this, she managed to borrow money to ensure her sons could participate. Over the years, Mahdi played for several teams and even tried his hand as a goalkeeper, achieving several championships. At 16, he decided to quit football to support his family financially, as their situation had not improved.
YouTube Career
During the COVID-19 pandemic, with schools closed, Mahdi began his YouTube channel with the aim of improving his family's financial situation. Initially, he created general content but did not find much success. After seeking advice from tech content creator Arian Abruni, Mahdi decided to focus on PES content. This marked the beginning of his channel, Mahdi PES.
Mahdi's YouTube channel grew steadily as he created content comparing FIFA and PES. He worked tirelessly from a small 9-square-meter room, using makeshift equipment. Six months into his YouTube journey, he began earning income and used his first earnings to buy clothes for his mother as a gesture of gratitude.
Personal Challenges
Mahdi faced significant personal challenges, including the loss of his beloved maternal grandmother. Despite the grief, he continued his work, inspired by his grandmother's wish that no one should cry at her grave. He focused on his YouTube career, sacrificing his football dreams to support his family.
Achievements
Mahdi's dedication to his YouTube channel paid off, and he reached 100,000 subscribers in three years. His story continues to inspire many, reflecting his resilience and commitment to his family.
