San Rafael Elementary School is located in the San Rafael Hills of Pasadena, California. Like most Pasadena Unified School District schools, San Rafael has a low attendance of the neighborhood, with a significant number of parents opting for private education. Because of the low turnout, its pupils are mostly Hispanic and originate from Northwest Pasadena. Consequently, the demographics of the school drive the Academic Performance Index scores lower and results in fewer children from the neighborhood attending the school. A number of times the school has been slated for closure due to the low turnout and low test scores.

Trivia

  • The school displays a Victorian design that has been the pictured in several movies including Liar, Liar and Bruce Almighty.
  • The school mascot is the panda.
