Mariam Paré is an artist and disability advocate. Paré's studio is in Chicago. She works in oil, acrylic and modern mixed-media techniques and collaborations with other artists in videography and photography.[1]

Early Life

Paré was born on December 1 in 1975 Morocco. [1]

Paré attended College of DuPage completing a bachelor’s degree in fine arts[2].

When Miriam was 20 years old, she was struck by a bullet when she was in her friend's car.[3]

Artistry

While in rehabilitation, a physical therapist taught her to use a pen to write her name; she understood that she could use this technique for drawing.[4] Shortly after learning to use her mouth for creating art, Paré connected to the Mouth & Foot Painting Artists.

Her work has been featured in holiday cards through the Mouth & Foot Painting Artists. Cards included renderings of Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford that the artists presented to them during her appeared on The Today Show.[5]

Paré part of the Tres Fridas Project, a collaboration with artists Reveca Torres and Tara Ahern[6]. The project recreated iconic artworks with people with disabilities as subjects.[7]

She became a Scholarship Holder of the Vereinigung der mund- und fuss-malenden Künstler in aller Welt e.V. (VDMFK) Association and in 2016 became an associate member . She has been a Full Member of the Association since 2023.[8]

Paré received a 3Arts Fellowship with University of Illinois at Chicago in 2020.[9]
