Giganewton
Appearance
The giganewton is a measurement of force, defined as one billion of Newtons. (One Newton is defined as the amount of force required to accelerate a mass of one kilogram at a rate of one metre per second squared.) The giganewton is often abbreviated as GN. For example, the first stage solid fuel booster of the LG-118A Peacekeeper ICBM can produce 2.2GN of thrust, allowing the 87 megagram vehicle to be accelerated very quickly.
