Akhalkalaki (Georgian for New City) is a small (and old) city in the Georgia's southern region of Javakheti.

It is located about 30km from the border with Turkey.

In April 2005, an agreement was signed to build a new railway connecting Turkey with Georgia and Azerbaijan, passing through Akhalkalaki.
