Quotes

Miguel Carbajal on Emiliano Cotelo
“What is different about Emiliano Cotelo? Among other things, he incorporates interesting variants about his character, genesis and formation. He has a background and career that is uncommon, and well-labored communication skills that differed from the expansive and often uncontrollable character of current radio broadcasters of this country.”
Emiliano Cotelo on his style of broadcasting
A journalist needs to know himself. In my case, I distrust improvisation. I don’t do it well nor I understand it. Thus when I express my opinion in an editorial I write it religiously word by word. - Not that I abuse editorials. I try not to have opinions on the air. - When improvising one makes mistakes, memory faults or one could make dubious judgments. I write the questions for my own interviews, present reports created by my staff and I, so I always know what I am saying, or if I have to, I read my editorials. As a listener I reject those radio hosts who constantly talk, and talk, and talk. As a listener I demand a voice who provides me with substance, someone who goes to the essence of the issues
Emiliano Cotelo on his "abrupt" ending of interviews.
This is not my idea. It is done worlwide. And it is most necessary here in Uruguay where interviewer and interviewee create ties of small town, especially with our politicians, and it requires too much courtesy and politeness. Plus in the early morning I am rushed by the clock, and so is the listener. I would prefer my interviews to be much shorter. The ones on the phone become a problem. We could get to the point in 5 or 6 minutes, but they tend to go round and round forever. That’s why I had to change and the last thing you hear is my thank you.
