The Pierces are a NewYork based music band.Major members are sisters Catherine Pierce (26) and Allison Pierce (28) who originally hail from Birmingham,Alabama.Their songs are best described as seductive harmonies usually dealing with bitter and sweet sides of love.Their music does not follow any genre outline rigidly,ranging from contemplative folky ballads,thumping disco scores,easygoing hummable melodies,viby riotous tunes to vaguely psychedelic compositions.
Biography
Childhood and Youth
Born to a gypsie couple in Birmingham,the girls got a bohemian upbringing.They were exposed to music and arts at an early age.They grew up listening to Joni Mitchell and Simon & Garfunkel.As kids,they would perform at parties,weddings and churches.Perhaps,this is why their music is so many things at the same time.Both sisters are accompolished ballerinas.Their parents both have artistic background.
2000-2005
It was at Auburn University,the university the girls attended, that a friend sent a tape to a record company in Nashville.This eventually resulted in what was their debut album "The Pierces(2000)".Their first music album showed their lack of maturity although the vocals were amazing and praised by both critics and fans.It seemed they just wrote the songs and ran with what they had.Allison herself in an interview admits that the album "sort of got lost in the shuffle".[1]".
It was a hard time for the beutiful and talented girls after their not-so-good debut.On August 10,2005 their second album was released titled "Light of the moon".This time the songs were lyrically well crafted.The vocals was as good as always.All in all,the album created a fan base with its mellow and harmonizing scores.
The girls were compared to well known artists like The Roches,Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Shawn Colvin and Sheryl Crow.
2005-2007
On 20 May,2007 their third album "Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge" was released.The album has been well appreciated particalarly the single "Boring".The songs are pretty catchy and ambient.It is supposed to mark a change in the direction of the band, as popularity and success of last album has made experimentation possible.
