The battle of Jaji took place in April 1987 between Arab Mujahideen under Osama bin Laden and Soviet forces, as part of the Soviet war in Afghanistan.

During a week, 50 Islamic fighters, mostly Arab volunteers, successfully defended one their compounds, at Jaji, near the Pakistani border, against 200 Soviet troops.

Though relatively unimportant in military terms, this episode was used by Bin Laden to portray himself as a victorious military leader, especially in the Arab press. In this way, he was able to attract many more followers to his cause.
