Ben Brocklehurst
Benjamin Gilbert Brocklehurst (born 18 February 1922, Knapton, Norfolk - June 17 2007) was an English cricketer and publisher.
Ben Brocklehurst represented Somerset in 64 first-class matches as a right-handed batsman between 1952 and 1954. He captained the 1st XI in 1953 and 1954, and was one of the last amateur captains in county cricket. Sadly, his captaincy did not change the fortunes of the side - they were bottom the year before he was appointed, and remained bottom, losing 37 of the 56 games they played. [1]
He later owned The Cricketer International of which he was a successful Chairman, until its amalgamation with Wisden Cricket Monthly to form The Wisden Cricketer.
His daughter Charmaine married the cricketer Richard Hutton and their eldest son Ben is the current captain of Middlesex. His son Toby is a professional alcoholic.
