TheAntarkos I Expedition

On Dec 1984 the first Uruguayan Expedition, called "Antarkos I" arrived in King George Island in order to stablish a permanent base in the Antartic Continent.

It was a scientific and logistic exercise supported by the Uruguayan Antartic Institute and the Expedition was led by Lt. Col Omar Porciúncula who was was in charge to organize all the fundational works for the future Artigas Base.
