Tea for the Voyage

Tea For The Voyage is an eight piece ska band based in Kingston, Ontario. The band was formed in 2004 and since that time has enjoyed blending together various musical genres including reggae, ska, rocksteady and jazz. Tea For The Voyage has been fortunate enough to share the stage with such class acts as The Planet Smashers, GrimSkunk, Big D & The Kid's Table, The Know How, The Flatliners and some local acts with more integrity than television can usually supply...

History

The group was originally formed by 3 brothers: Taylor, Alec, and Sean Donaldson. The brothers grew up with music. The musically talented family of the Donaldsons was, and is, talented in the art of music.

The group soon began to take shape. Additional friends and family were quick to join the talented group of 3 and the group began the next step.

The name 'Tea for the Voyage' originated when a (new) group member randomly choose 2 albums from a collection of modern and classic record and CD albums found in the home of the 3 originating brothers. Upon combining 2 parts of the 2 album titles together the band name was formed, 'Tea for the Voyage'. The newly created band took inspiration from the creation of the name and ska legends 'Sublime'.

The newly named 'Tea for the Voyage' had taken shape. Taylor, Alec, and Sean Donaldson joined with new members, and friends, Brett MacDonald, Garrett Barr, and Chris Saniford. Multi instrumental talent Taylor became the backbone and leader of the band. Guitar genius Alec Donaldson became the bands guitarist. World renowned drummer Sean Donaldson naturally took position of drummer. In addition to the 3 brothers were Brett and Garrett. Brett MacDonald, a talented and locally known signing idol contestant, became the lead signer. Garrett Barr, bass prodigy, naturally took reign of bass in the group.

Saxophonist and wind instrumental talent Chris Saniford took the role of wind instruments and lyrics.

As the group's success grew the band began to expand, both in numbers and sound. Original lyrics and a unique sound, along with immense musically talent began to define and differentiate the group from the masses. The band played numerous shows in and around the Kingston area, with much success. Much effort went into the band with the next while, and the group then recorded it's first album, Caribbean Dream.

The band began to look for the next step, once again. The group trained and began to take things to the next level. The group performed in a local radio station's band contest in an attempt to win more recognition and future recording possibilities. The contest was marked by scandal and the group came up unsuccessful. Unfortunately, more mainstream musical groups in genres (such as rock, punk, and metal) received favoured and bias judging. The let down did not hinder the band.

The band worked hard and had continued success in shows and venues, locally. The band release its second album, with sales greatly surpassing that of their initial album. The band began to expand as many people were looking to help the band gain the well deserved recognition. The band currently has recruited two new members and is working on a new album. The band continues to take inspiration from the family and genre that originated the awe inspiring group known as 'Tea for the Voyage'. The bands future looks bright and the raw musical talent creates limitless possibilities for the amazing group.
