The Ibanez S is a guitar series made by Ibanez. This series was introduced in the late 1980's and was touted as an extremely thin and comfortably designed guitar, that still packed a punch visually and tone-wise.

Ibanez S's have been known to have either HH or HSH pickup configurations, the HH being the most popular as the single coil tends to get in the way with most players. Before 2003 both the Edge,Edge LoPro, and Lo-TRS trem system were used on the (Japanese) models. Now Ibanez offers ONLY the ZR Trem to its customers limiting choice they once had. The current (2003 and beyond lineup) S series uses a Zero-Resistance (ZR) tremolo system, and, according to Herman Li, "Stays in tune no matter what kind of crazy things I do. But it also has it's disadvantages. Known to have Wizard necks up to 2004 when they stopped making them fans of the Ibanez S series raved that it had the thinnest neck on Ibanez's thinnest guitar. The newer Wizard II is not as fast, or flat, and has not been received as well as Ibanez originally planned. Players that like thick necks normal don't go for Ibanez S series brand anyhow. Not only this, the neck height and body thickness was also changed. The S isn't what it as a few years back causing the majority of S owners and players to complain on Ibanez's own board.

Ibanez S players are now hoping Ibanez gets back in gear the with S series and stops making what it considers "Toys". Not only has quality control went down with the S series, it's not even the same guitar.

It was once a "Sabre" now it is a butter knife.

The most highly sought after S guitars are the 98-2004 S Prestige guitars. The last Made in Japan Prestige guitars Ibanez made. Also the last year of the original body shape and original wizard neck.
