Kate Murray is the Supervisor of the Town of Hempstead, New York. A Republican, she previously served as a member of the New York State Assembly and then as Clerk for the Town of Hempstead. Murray was appointed Supervisor by Nassau County the Hempstead Town Board in 2003, after Town of Hempstead Supervisor Richard V. Guardino Jr. resigned. She won election to the position of Supervisor in the fall of 2003 and was re-elected in 2005 with over 60% of the vote. She is a close ally of GOP State Chairman Joseph Mondello. Although the GOP strength has diminished precipitously as demonstrated by nine (9) years of losses, including control of the Town of North Hempstead and Nassau County itself, the Town of Hempstead remains the GOP's last stronghold.
