Bromoacetic acid
Appearance
Bromoacetic acid is a white solid carboxylic acid. It is used as an intermediate for the manufacture of other compounds or pharmaceuticals.
More known is its ethyl ester - ethyl bromoacetate, which was used as a tear gas and lachrymatory agent.
It is an example of difference between IUPAC name and systematic name. IUPAC recommends for this compound name bromoacetic acid, but systematic name is bromoethanoic acid.
