Boys Like Girls genre

Sorry I haven't replied earlier. I rarely come to the site anymore. As for Boys Like Girls' genre, any genre that is prefaced by the word "indie" does not apply here, since a band must have a strong connection to the independent music scene to be labelled that. Be it being signed to an independent record label, or better yet maintaining a DIY ethic in most everything they do — hellogoodbye is a wonderful example for "indie pop" (technically an oxymoron in itself in my opinion, since "indie" is derived from "alternative" and "alternative" ≠ "pop"), since they play "popular music", but are 100% independent ranging from writing their own music to designing their own merchandise. Also, I strongly oppose labelling any band "alternative" nowadays, as basically all rock music is "alternative rock" because of the variety of influences of contemporary bands (often punk rock, pop, electronica, rhythm and blues, reggae, etc.). "Pop rock" is definitely the most fitting, and there is a long and comprehensive explanation of their influences at the bottom of the article for anyone who is interested. Although, the genre discussions will never end, since basically no two bands sound exatly the same and creating new genres for each artist is not practicable. But since many editors do not understand that, these discussions can (have often do) lead to unnecessary edit wars and stupid arguments on Wikipedia (especially when the word "emo" is on the table). Hope this helps, have a great day! --HarryCane 14:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
