"Adrift" is an episode of the science fiction television series Stargate Atlantis. This will be the fourth-season premiere.[1]
Plot
After escaping into hyperspace from a Replicator attack on Lantea, Atlantis' stardrive shuts down without warning. With only 24 hours of power left Atlantis drifts in space out of contact with Earth and the Apollo. Lacking any way to realign the Stargate and with no idea of what their position is, they continue to drift. Meanwhile, Col. Carter and Dr. Lee who have arrived at the Midway space station, while staying in contact with the Apollo, begin their search for Atlantis.
As power levels drop, the shield shrinks down, killing several personnel. To save ZPM energy, Rodney comes up with the idea to shrink the shield to cover only the main tower. Luck goes from bad to worse when Atlantis moves towards an asteroid field. With the shield shrunk, jumpers are launched to destroy the asteroids and clear a passage. Meanwhile, a dying Dr Weir undergoes brain surgery, and is only saved by reactivating the nannites that have been in her bloodstream since Progeny.
The hyperdrive wouldn't work so Sheppard and Zelenka attempt to repair damage to the power systems, but Teyla informs them that it is too late to jump back into hyperspace. With critical failure approaching, Rodney and Zelenka comtemplate using the new Puddle Jumper Hyperdrive to steal a ZPM from the Replicator homeworld.
